Project: The BBRC Training Hospital, Manipur

In order to properly develop the work of the Bone and Body Research Centre (BBRC), we are building a hospital in Manipur to focus on research, education and innovation in integrative healthcare systems and to train the next generation of practitioners.

Currently we run two clinics in India to which patients from all over the world come for treatment for a wide range of musculoskeletal problems and related conditions. The clinics are small and seasonal, so we are limited in respect to the number of people and the severity of the conditions that we are able to treat.

The BBRC Training Hospital in Manipur will enable us to develop and expand our existing techniques in musculoskeletal realignment, and to add in-patient care and indigenous medicines and remedies to our treatment options, which will improve overall outcomes for our clients.

This will also mean we can increase the number of people that we employ and provide further opportunities for those who wish to learn traditional Meitei healthcare systems and to qualify as practitioners. This will enable us to make these techniques more widely available to people in need across India and indeed throughout the world.

The BBRC Training Hospital will be located in the Imphal East region of Manipur. We are currently exploring the best site for the hospital. Construction work is due to begin in March 2017.

From the outset, we will be working to treat the following conditions:

Spinal conditions: including scoliosis, kyphosis, degenerative disc disorders, osteoarthritis, spondylolisthesis and disc herniation
Joint problems: including knee, hip, shoulder, elbow, wrists, ankles, fingers and toes.
Digestive and bodily system conditions.
Blood circulation conditions.
Autoimmune disorders.

The Hospital will also be focused on developing and delivering the following:

Physical fitness training systems: to improve general fitness and well being of individual clients
Food and Nutrition programmes: designed to meet the short-term and long term dietary needs of individual clients.

This project has FOUR key objectives:

1. To establish a functioning hospital dedicated to the treatment of patients using a holistic approach and a combination of traditional and modern healthcare techniques.

2. To establish a centre for the training of new practitioners in our integrative healthcare and fitness treatment programmes.

3. To work with local people: with the long-term aim of creating wealth, providing purpose and adding value to the lives of our employees and their families and communities. We will achieve this by promoting sustainable techniques that are also commercially viable.

4. To ensure that patients are at the centre of all that we do and that each patient is treated as an individual and involved in decisions about their care. To recognise the diversity of our patients and respond with compassion and experience to their needs, listening carefully and communicating clearly.
